Frequently Asked Questions

Your therapist will arrive about 15 minutes prior to the start of the service to set up.  We will have everything required for your specific treatment, including music if needed, and only ask that you've planned a space large enough to set up a standard massage table with room to move around it.  Access to a sink is also helpful so that we may wash our hands before and after your service.  

We will discuss the hopes and expectations of the service you'll be receiving then will step out of the way so that you have privacy to get on the table.  If there are any special requirements or boundaries that you would like to set to ensure your total comfort and relaxation, please bring these to our attention at this time.

While it is human nature to sometimes feel the need to fill quiet space with small talk, chatting during your service is not expected of you by our team.  This is your time to turn off and just let your thoughts relax. 

Once the service has ended we will excuse ourselves to give you time to get dressed. We want you to stay in your calm state of mind as long as possible so we will quietly pack up, collect payment if it hasn't been done so prior, and leave you to enjoy your restored sense of calm.

When choosing a massage style there are a few things to consider.  Do you want to focus on pure relaxation, do you want to have unpleasant kinks worked out of tight muscles, or perhaps a mixture of the two?  Here is a brief explanation of each of our massage techniques. 

Swedish - Light to medium pressured movements intended to relax and sooth the body.  During a Swedish massage you will experience muscle relief, but there isn't deep pressure applied to any given area.  This is the service for those who want to focus on overall relaxation and maybe even drift off to sleep.

Deep Tissue - Very similar in nature to a Swedish session, but adding in medium to firm pressured movements over tight areas as needed.  This is for those who are currently stiff or experiencing muscular pain or tightness from physical activity.  You might not fall asleep, but you're going to be very relaxed.

**There is a great misconception that Deep Tissue massages need to be painful to be effective, and while some therapists might believe this myth, it is not our approach at Coastal Calm.  

Our Deep Tissue sessions are intended to loosen knots and relieve tight muscles by using strong, but non-aggressive movements such as friction and kneading, repeatedly over the affected area--along with our Hypervolt Massager when needed (see Indulgences)--until the muscles release.  We will not be jamming knuckles or elbows into your body until you can't breathe--no one enjoys that, and it is not safe practice.  

Sports - This technique is nearly identical to a Deep Tissue session with the difference being that Sports massages includes faster movements, range of motion and stretching of limbs.  Your body will feel amazing after this service without doubt, but it is lower on the relaxing scale than our other modalities.

We use hypoallergenic and unscented massage gels, wraps, balms, and oils as much as possible.  

Our standard massage gel used for every service is made from organic Jojoba, Shea Butter and Sesame with botanical extracts of Chamomile, Lavender, Lemon Balm, Passion Flower and Sage.  The gel is listed as nut-oil free and gluten/wheat free.  

Our body wrap is listed as nut oil free, but does contain seaweed if you are allergic to seafood or iodine.  

If you have any specific allergies that you are concerned about please make this known in your initial inquiry.  

At Coastal Calm, your comfort and modesty are our top priority.  You will be fully draped by a sheet and a blanket for your service and only the area of the body being worked will be exposed at any given time. 

The level in which you undress is solely up to you, but here are a few standards.  It is most common for both males and females to undress fully, especially if you are receiving a body wrap or scrub, but many people will choose to wear underpants which we strongly encourage.  

For females, bras tend to hinder a smooth back massage, but can be worked around if needed.  We also suggest that all removable jewelry--mainly necklaces and bracelets--be taken off, however rings are fine.  

Coastal Calm accepts cash, Venmo, or Zelle Payments.  Payment is due in full at the time of service.  

Our therapists strive to provide an unforgettable experience to every one of our customers regardless of monetary incentive.  Gratuities are always appreciated, but never required.  

In order to cancel or change a scheduled appointment, we ask that you please call or text at least 48 hours in advance. If you reach the voice-mail, please leave a detailed message. 

Cancellations within 12 hours of a service will be charged a non-refundable fee of 50% of the total service rate.  

Your service will begin at the scheduled appointment time regardless if you are delayed.  If you are going to be a few minutes late to a scheduled appointment, we will still be able to offer the best possible service within the time remaining, however the appointment will still end at the originally scheduled time with no adjustment to the fee.  

If you are more than 30 minutes late for any service we reservice the right to cancel the service and charge a non-refundable fee of 50% of the total service rate.

**We understand that unexpected situations can come up and will do our absolute best to accommodate last minute delays or cancellations on a case-by-case basis. 

Our therapists handle themselves as professionals at all times and we expect the same of our clientele.  We reserve the right to end a service at any time in which a client is speaking or behaving in a threatening, derogatory, or sexual manner.  

Also, as a safety measure for our therapists, it is strict policy that we are always aware of the location and length of each scheduled mobile service.

• We encourage every client under the care of a doctor for any reason to be cleared for massage therapy.  If you are uncertain about anything regarding your health please consult your physician prior to booking.  

• At the moment, we regret that our mobile services are not able to cater to women past 12 weeks of pregnancy, but plan to add this service in the near future. 

• In accordance with South Carolina state law, massage therapists and establishments are not allowed to massage or treat anyone under 18 without written consent from a parent or legal guardian, or a written order from a licensed medical professional. For clients 15 and under, the parent or guardian must be present in the treatment room.   

• Lastly, our mobile massage tables have a weight limit of 400lbs. We are happy to discuss other positioning options for anyone above this threshold for the sake of your safety and the enjoyment of our services. 

At the moment, Coastal Calm operates solely as a mobile massage service.
